A few years ago, in a Channel 4 report that showed the problems of education in our country, a girl of approximately 14 years of age, a secondary school student from the I. E. Almirante Miguel Grau Seminario, when asked:"And who was Miguel Grau?" she replied that it was “the name of the owner of her school”. But the worst came later, when they asked the same question to one of the teachers from the same educational institution. The answer was just two words, in the tone of a question:"a hero?" If this happened with one of the most well-known characters in our republican history, it is a fact that it will happen with less relatable names, which may contain interesting stories, information that increases our general knowledge, material that we can offer our students.
In this sense, the Spill Magisterial blog will start, tomorrow, Wednesday, a series of articles called "And who was...?", with biographical data and scope regarding those characters whose names are used, some for decades, as names of schools. It is common that we do not know who was that character that gives our schools their name, and the same happens with our streets, squares, monuments, etc. Behind each name there is a story related to our country. These are heroes, politicians, artists, educators, etc., who for some reason stood out and deserved recognition at the time.
The note – or post – about the character will be complemented with some external link, text or video, with which we can complement the information contained in each delivery, so that we can organize and who knows, from there, start a good history class, a literary reference or a starting point to pay tribute to characters who left their mark on the past, rescuing their memory.
