Gioacchino Rossini (1792-1868)

On a day like today, the Italian composer Gioacchino Rossini passed away in Paris, affected by pneumonia. He was 76 years old. Until the time of his death, he was considered the most famous composer of operas, with 39 titles to his credit. The Barber of Seville (original title in Italian:Il barbieri di Siviglia , premiered in 1816), perhaps the best known of his works, continues to draw smiles and applause in the most prestigious theaters in the world and has been performed by some of the best singers of the lyrical genre of all time, including our compatriot Juan Diego Florez .

It is necessary that schools stimulate knowledge and appreciation of these masterpieces of music, in an era marked by the immediacy of the commercial. Rossini, who also wrote songs, chamber music and sacred music, composed this hilarious score in just 13 days, which is a striking display of his talent.

Gioacchino Rossini's operas are, to this day, the most difficult to interpret due to the high vocal registers that the singers must have, both men (tenors) and women (sopranos) to meet the characters. This combination of humorous librettos with technical complexities make Rossini's musical work one of the most interesting for the studio.

In addition, some of his arias (as the songs that make up an opera are called) are widely known and popular, used in movies, cartoons and television commercials. Spill Magisterial offers you two of them, the overtures of his most famous operas: The Barber of Seville and the second part of Guillermo Tell . Enjoy them :
