Since 1970 the world celebrates Earth Day , a way of calling societies to reflect on the importance of caring for the natural resources of our planet, the only one in which -until now- the conditions are met for our species to survive, in the immense universe. The earth is our home and its elements require all our care and responsibility because, from the industrializing thought and the consumer society, the earth has shown various signs of exhaustion and scarcity. Its main promoter was US Senator Gaylord Nelson, who established this day to create common awareness of the problems of overpopulation, pollution production, biodiversity conservation and other environmental concerns to protect the Earth. In Peru, two educational institutions give us an example of that common awareness with activities scheduled for that date, which we present here:
On the occasion of Earth Day , which is commemorated this Tuesday, April 22, students from two schools, one from the district of Jesús María (Lima) and another from the district of San Jerónimo del Tunán (Huancayo), will raise hundreds of balloons containing seeds of plants found in Ways of extinction. In the same way, they will plant the "Tree of life".
In Lima, it will be the students of the Isaac Newton School, and in Huancayo, of the I.E. 30244 Juana Guerra de Chávez, who will participate in the aforementioned environmental celebration. The Huancaino students will also install quejes de Cantuta, the National Flower of Peru, in their main park.
The aforementioned activities are part of the will to reaffirm the responsibility to promote harmony with nature, at a time when our planet is suffering the consequences of climate change, the exploitation irresponsible of natural resources and other problems generated by human activities.
We congratulate these two Peruvian educational institutions for this valuable initiative to protect our planet and its resources.
