History of Europe

Why did the invention of printing not have significant impact on Chinese society like press invented Europe did?

This is not true.

The printing press had a significant impact on Chinese society during the Ming and Qing dynasties. In fact, the invention of movable type printing in China predated its development in Europe by several centuries. The first known usage of movable type was by Bi Sheng in 1040 during the Northern Song dynasty.

Here are some ways printing impacted Chinese society:

- Mass production of books and other printed materials made knowledge and information more widely available, leading to increased literacy rates and a more informed population.

- The printing press facilitated the spread of Confucianism and other ideologies, contributing to cultural and intellectual development.

- Printed books and texts played a crucial role in the development of Chinese literature, with the emergence of novels and other forms of creative writing.

- The printing press also supported administrative and bureaucratic functions by enabling the mass production of official documents, records, and regulations.

- It had a commercial impact as printed materials were used for advertisements, business transactions, and the production of currency notes.
