History of Europe

Who were the descedants of europeans born in Latin America?

Creoles were the descendants of European settlers born in Latin America. They formed the upper class of colonial society and held most of the power and wealth. Creoles were often well-educated and held important positions in government, the military, and the church. They also owned large plantations and haciendas.

Creoles developed a distinct culture and identity from their European ancestors. They were proud of their Latin American heritage and often had a strong sense of nationalism. This sense of nationalism eventually led to the independence of Latin America from European rule.
