Tulsa was not actually named the "oil capital of the world" during the first half of the twentieth century. That title was generally associated with other cities, such as Houston, Texas or Baku, Azerbaijan. Tulsa was, however, a major center of the oil industry during that time and was known for its many refineries and oil-related businesses.
