What was the purpose of Berlin Blockade?

To force the Western Allies to abandon the city and its residents to Soviet control.

By blockading all rail, road, and canal access to West Berlin, the Soviets hoped to starve the city into submission and force the Western Allies (the United States, Great Britain, and France) to withdraw their troops from the city. The Soviets believed that if the Western Allies abandoned West Berlin, it would be a significant propaganda victory for the Soviet Union and would demonstrate the weakness of the Western powers.
