History of Europe

Who were the Cicones?

The Cicones were a Greek tribe inhabiting the north coast of Thrace, in what is today Bulgaria. They are mentioned in Homer's Iliad, where they are described as warlike and skilled in archery. The Cicones were allies of the Trojans during the Trojan War, and they fought against the Greeks. After the Trojan War, the Cicones were subjugated by the Persians.
