* October: French crusaders led by Hugh of Vermandois and Robert Curthose set out from France.

* November: Norman crusaders led by Robert II, Duke of Normandy, and Stephen, Count of Blois, set out from England.

* 1097:

* Spring: The German and French crusaders arrive in Constantinople, where they are joined by Byzantine emperor Alexios I Komnenos.

* May: The crusaders cross the Bosporus into Asia Minor.

* June: The crusaders defeat the Seljuk Turks at the Battle of Dorylaeum.

* July-September: The crusaders besiege and capture the city of Nicaea.

* 1098:

* Spring: The crusaders march towards Jerusalem.

* June: The crusaders capture the city of Antioch after a long siege.
