There is no record of any deal made on April 30th, 1803. However, on April 30, 1803, the United States and France signed the Louisiana Purchase Treaty, orchestrated by Thomas Jefferson. This resulted in the Louisiana Purchase, where France sold 828,000 square miles of the Louisiana territory to the US.
Napoleon was willing to make this deal because:
- He needed money to fund his wars in Europe, and the Louisiana Territory was a valuable asset that he could easily spare.
- He wanted to build a strong relationship with the United States, which was a growing power at the time.
