The German occupation of our Greece was not just cruel, but murderous. The Germans and their Italian and Bulgarian allies committed horrific war crimes against the Greeks, to whom they appeared – otherwise – as “friends” who attacked Greece to “drive out the English and the pro-British regime”.
However, the Greeks did not panic and from the beginning they resisted the conquerors as much as they could, as many as they could, passively or dynamically, but always with heroism and self-sacrifice. A typical example of Greek self-sacrifice is the following recorded in an official report dated October 28, 1943.
"In September 1941, two German officers disappeared in the Megaron region of Attica. Consequently, the German Antiquities arrested and imprisoned 100 Megarians, whom they will execute if the perpetrators are not found. Two invalids of the current Greco-Italian War, wounded in Albania, presented themselves to the German authorities and declared that they were the killers of the German officers. Upon their declaration, they immediately fired. After a few days, the bodies of the German officers were found. And from the examination it was proven that the wounded offered, the ones sacrificed to save the lives of 100 people, were innocent"!
Immortal Greece!
