A few days ago I intervened in the Úbeda Historical Novel Contest podcast to talk about one of my historical novel authors and one of my favorite historical periods. The author is Bernard Cornwell and the podcast focused on the first novel in his saga Saxons, Vikings and Normans and in the television series The Last Kingdom , based on these novels.
In the podcast we meet four good friends and four passionate about the author and the saga. At the helm was Pablo Lozano, director of the Ciudad de Úbeda Historical Novel Contest. And as fellow guests were David Yagüe, journalist and author of the historical novel blog XX Siglos in 20 Minutes, and José Zoilo Hernández, writer of historical novels such as the trilogy Las Cenizas de Hispania or the recent Lordemano where it deals precisely with topics closely related to those of the saga of Bernard Cornwell.
We had time to dissect the author, his work, the characters in the novels, the historical setting in which they take place, and also to assess the television series The Last Kingdom , whose fifth and final season premieres shortly on Netflix.
