This year 2019 marks five hundred years since the beginning of a great adventure that led to the transformation of the world in every way:the first circumnavigation of the planet, begun by the Portuguese at the service of the Spanish crown Ferdinand Magellan and culminated by the Spanish Juan Sebastián Elcano . As a contribution to this commemoration, the Ministry of Defense has published this comic, illustrated by Jorge Rodríguez Rivero , with which it is intended to bring the figure of Juan Sebastián Elcano closer to the young public in an entertaining and close way, as well as to vindicate the importance of a deed that completely changed the conception of the Earth that was held until then.

On September 20, the Madrid Naval Museum will open to the public the new temporary exhibition We were the first. Magellan, Elcano and Around the World , in which the painting by Ferrer-Dalmau will be exhibited Primus Circumdedisti me. The painting represents the moment in which the Victoria, commanded by Juan Sebastián de Elcano, bids farewell to the Trinidad to return to Spain from the spice islands to the west, thus completing the circumnavigation of the world.
