What city did mehmed conquer?

Mehmed II, also known as Mehmed the Conqueror, conquered the city of Constantinople in 1453. Constantinople, which was then the capital of the Byzantine Empire, fell after a 53-day siege led by Mehmed II. The conquest marked the end of the Byzantine Empire and the rise of the Ottoman Empire. Mehmed II renamed the city Istanbul and made it the new capital of the Ottoman Empire.
