History of South America

How did some goods slip through the blockade to reach south?

* Running the blockade: Some ships were able to successfully evade the Union blockade and reach southern ports. These ships were often small and fast, and they typically sailed at night or in bad weather.

* Neutral ships: Some goods also reached the South through neutral ships. These ships were not subject to the Union blockade, and they could legally trade with both the Union and the Confederacy.

* Smuggling: Some goods were also smuggled into the South through various methods, such as hiding them in bales of cotton or other cargo.
