It was designed by sculptor Ernest Dubois in 1897 and cast in bronze by Fonderie d'Art du Val d'Osne in Paris. The statue stands on a pedestal that is 12 feet high and is topped with a cross. Saint Louis is shown standing with his right arm raised and his left arm holding a book. He wears a bishop's mitre and cope, and his feet are bare. The statue is 8 feet tall and weighs 2,000 pounds.
