The Shawnee were initially centered around the Cumberland Valley in southern Pennsylvania, but eventually inhabited much of the Ohio Valley and the present-day states of West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma, as well as small pockets in Alabama and Georgia.
