How does the 14th amendment section 2 change census from way in which it was to be taken according Article 1 2?

The 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution, ratified in 1868, does not alter or mention the decennial census as outlined in Article 1, Section 2 of the Constitution.

Article 1, Section 2 states: "[A]n enumeration shall be made within three years after the first meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent term of ten years, in such manner as they shall direct, of the number of free persons in each State".
