Why were many southerners pleased by the decision in Dred Scott case?

The Dred Scott decision was not well received by most Southerners.

The Southerners were largely not pleased by the decision regarding the *Dred Scott case*. They believed the Supreme Court had overstepped its authority in ruling on the constitutionality of the Missouri Compromise, which prohibited slavery north of the 36°30′ parallel. They argued that the federal government had no jurisdiction to regulate the institution of slavery within individual states. Some even called the decision a form of "judicial tyranny".
