History of South America

Why did people leave England to go colonial Georgia?

* Religious freedom: The Church of England was the official state religion in England, and many people who did not follow its teachings were persecuted. In Georgia, people were allowed to practice their religion freely.

* Economic opportunity: The English economy was in a state of decline in the early 18th century, and many people were looking for a new opportunity to make money. Georgia offered rich land and the chance to start a new business.

* Adventure: The prospect of exploring a new land and starting a new life was exciting to many people. Georgia was seen as a place of opportunity and adventure, where anything was possible.

* Philanthropy: Some people were motivated to go to Georgia by the desire to help others. The English philanthropist James Oglethorpe founded Georgia as a place where poor people could get a fresh start.
