What happened to the southern militia after John raid?

The Southern militia was dispersed after John Brown's raid on Harpers Ferry in 1859. After the failure of his raid, Brown and his fellow raiders were captured by U.S. Marines led by Robert E. Lee. Brown was found guilty of treason and murder and was executed by hanging. The raid caused increased tensions between the North and South and is often seen as one of the events that led to the American Civil War.
