Were does the last name Barrios come from?

Barrios is a Spanish toponymic surname, originally based on barrio, meaning "the outlying district of a town, hamlet". In medieval Spain barri was "town quarter", originally "mud suburb". Barrio could also come from a place name in Spain: Los Barrios is in Cádiz; Barrios de Colina and Barrios de Luna is in León province or Barriosuso en Burgos. Finally Barria- also occurs as a place name (Barrio, Asturias). Barrios is very frequently also Latin American or Iberian.
