How many Japanese soldiers occupied the Alaskan Aleutian area and how American died in combat there?

During World War II, the Japanese occupied two islands in the Alaskan Aleutian area: Attu and Kiska. They never landed on the mainland of Alaska, and their occupation of these two islands was relatively short-lived.

A total of approximately 5,000 Japanese troops were stationed in the Aleutians during the occupation, and of that total of approximately 11,500. American soldiers in total were killed during combat operations around the Aleutians.
