Why does a right ovary hurt?

There are several possible reasons why a right ovary may hurt. Some of the most common causes include:

* Ovulation: Ovulation occurs when a mature egg is released from one of the ovaries. This process can sometimes cause a mild, temporary pain on the side of the ovary that is releasing the egg.

* Corpus luteum cyst: A corpus luteum cyst is a fluid-filled sac that can develop on the ovary after ovulation. These cysts are usually harmless and will go away on their own, but they can sometimes cause pain.

* Endometriosis: Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue that normally lines the uterus grows outside of the uterus. This tissue can implant on the ovaries and cause pain.

* Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID): PID is an infection of the uterus, fallopian tubes, and/or ovaries. PID can cause pain in the lower abdomen, including the ovaries.

* Ectopic pregnancy: An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants outside of the uterus. This can happen in the fallopian tube, the ovary, or the cervix. Ectopic pregnancies can cause severe pain.

* Ovarian cancer: Ovarian cancer is a type of cancer that starts in the ovaries. This type of cancer can cause pain in the lower abdomen, including the ovaries.

If you are experiencing pain in your right ovary, it is important to see a doctor to rule out any underlying medical conditions.
