The Delian League was formed in 478 BC by the Greek city-states of Athens, Sparta, and other city-states to fight against the Persians. The league was led by Athens and was headquartered on the island of Delos. The league's main goal was to protect its members from Persian invasion and to liberate the Greek cities that were still under Persian control.
