What was motivation and purpose in World War 2?

World War II, which lasted from 1939 to 1945, was a global war that involved most of the world's countries—including all of the great powers—forming two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis. It was the most widespread war in history, with more than 100 million people mobilized in more than 30 countries. The major participants in the war were the United States, the Soviet Union, China, and the United Kingdom.

The motivations and purposes of the countries involved in World War II were complex and varied. Some of the key reasons for the war include:

* Imperialism and Nationalism: Many countries were motivated by a desire to expand their empires or gain control of resources and territory. This was particularly true of the Axis powers, such as Germany, Italy, and Japan, which were seeking to establish new empires.

* Fascism and Totalitarianism: The rise of fascist and totalitarian regimes, such as Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, led to increased tensions and conflicts between nations. These regimes were based on ideologies that promoted militarism, authoritarianism, and the belief in the superiority of one race or nation over others.

* Appeasement: In the 1930s, some countries, particularly the Western democracies, adopted a policy of appeasement towards the Axis powers in an attempt to avoid war. This policy failed, however, and only served to embolden the Axis powers and led to the outbreak of war.

* Ideological Conflicts: The war also involved ideological conflicts between different political systems, such as communism, fascism, and democracy. The Soviet Union and the Western Allies were both opposed to fascism, but they also had deep ideological differences that contributed to the Cold War after the war.

The purpose of World War II, from the perspective of the Allies, was to defeat the Axis powers and defend the principles of democracy, freedom, and human rights. The Allies sought to end fascism and totalitarianism, and to prevent future wars by establishing a more just and peaceful international order.

In the end, the Allies were victorious, and World War II resulted in the defeat of the Axis powers and the establishment of a new global order based on the principles of democracy and collective security.
