Who are world leaders that promoted peace in the world?

Mahatma Gandhi

Mahatma Gandhi was a leader of the Indian independence movement in British-ruled India. Employing nonviolent civil disobedience, Gandhi led India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world.

Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela was a leader of the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa. He was imprisoned for 27 years, but when released, became the first president of a democratic South Africa. Mandela advocated for racial reconciliation and justice.

Mikhail Gorbachev

Mikhail Gorbachev was the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1985-1991. He introduced policies of perestroika (economic restructuring) and glasnost (openness) that led to the end of the Cold War and the fall of communism in the Soviet Union.

Kofi Annan

Kofi Annan was the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1997-2006. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his humanitarian work, particularly his efforts to resolve the conflicts in East Timor, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Balkans.
