What is a uboat?

U-boat is an abbreviation of Unterseeboot, which means "undersea boat" in German. U-boats are submarines, usually powered by diesel engines and designed for underwater use. They are typically equipped with torpedoes and other weapons for offensive purposes, as well as sonar and other sensors for navigation and detection. U-boats have been used by various navies around the world, most notably by Germany during World Wars I and II, when they were used to attack enemy shipping and military vessels.
