What was the purpose of Bay Pigs invasion?

Bay of Pigs invasion also known as Playa Girón operation, refers to the failed United States military invasion of Cuba that began on 17th April 1961 and lasted about three days.

Purpose:

- Overtly, the mission's objective was to overthrow dictator Fulgencio Batista's pro-communist government

- Covertly, the Bay of Pigs was planned by both CIA director Allen Dulles and President Eisenhower after Fidel Castro's July 26 revolution, to eliminate a new Marxist-Leninist state, and to destabilize the country enough to bring in a government more favorable to American business objectives
