How long do you have to serve over seas be a veteran?

You don't have to serve overseas to be a veteran. A veteran is any person who has served in the active military, naval, or air service and who has been discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable. You can be a veteran even if you:

* Served in a combat zone.

* Were stationed in a foreign country but never deployed to a combat zone.
