Who are the caribs arawaks?

Caribs

- Indigenous peoples of the Caribbean (including the Lesser Antilles, Bahamas, Greater Antilles) and parts of northern South America.

- Their language is the Cariban languages.

- Migrated to the Caribbean from South America in approximately 1200 CE.

- Skilled navigators and fishermen, used dugout canoes.

- Practiced slash and burn agriculture. Main crops: cassava, maize and sweet potatoes. Caught game, hunted.

- Lived in rectangular communal houses, called 'bohios'.

- Skilled potters and weavers.

Arawaks

- Indigenous people of South America and the Caribbean.

- Language is the Arawakan language.

- Lived across Northern South America, Caribbean and Florida during the 15th and 16th centuries.

- Migrated to the Caribbean from South America in approximately 800 CE.

- Skilled farmers, grew tobacco, maize, cotton and cassava.

- Lived in rectangular houses covered in palm leaves.

- Skilled woodcarvers and weavers.

- Practiced body painting, face and skull deformation.

- Religion included belief in a supreme creator and a pantheon of lesser dieties.
