The First Continental Congress

* Met in 1774 in response to the Coercive Acts passed by the British Parliament.

* Was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was attended by delegates from all of the British colonies in North America except Georgia.

* Included delegates such as George Washington, Patrick Henry, and John Adams.

* Adopted the Declaration of Rights and Grievances, which outlined the colonists' complaints about British policies and asserted their rights as British subjects.

* Established a Continental Association to enforce a boycott of British goods and establish trade with other countries.

* Called for a Second Continental Congress to be held in 1775 if the British government did not address their grievances.

The First Continental Congress was a significant step in the American Revolution because it brought the colonies together in opposition to British policies. It also laid the foundation for the Continental Army and the Declaration of Independence.
