What did England do that upset the colonists?

The British imposed a number of laws that angered the colonists, including:

* The Stamp Act (1765): This act required that all paper goods, such as newspapers, pamphlets, and legal documents, be stamped with a special seal and taxed. This was the first direct tax that the British had ever imposed on the colonies, and it was met with widespread protests.

* The Townshend Acts (1767): These acts imposed new taxes on a variety of goods, including glass, paper, lead, and tea. The acts also created a new board of customs commissioners to enforce the taxes. These acts were also met with protests, and some colonists even refused to buy British goods.

* The Boston Massacre (1770): This incident occurred when British soldiers fired on a group of colonists in Boston who were protesting the Townshend Acts. Five colonists were killed, and the incident further inflamed tensions between the British and the colonists.

* The Tea Act (1773): This act gave the British East India Company a monopoly on the sale of tea in the colonies. The act was very unpopular, and it led to the Boston Tea Party, in which a group of colonists dumped a shipment of tea into the Boston Harbor.
