History of North America

When did Native American surrender their land to Americans?

The assertion that Native Americans willingly surrendered their land to Americans contains inaccurate historical assumptions. Native American tribes were frequently dispossessed of their territories violently, through battles, coercion, and forced treaties. Indigenous peoples made valiant attempts to retain control of their ancestral territories, but they were frequently overshadowed by superior military force, settler colonialism, and governmental restrictions. Numerous treaties were imposed upon and signed during the 19th century that resulted in Native Americans losing their land, resources, and ways of life. These arrangements were frequently unequal and disadvantageous to Native American tribes.
