How much land was captured on d-day?

On D-Day, the Allied forces captured a strip of land approximately 8 to 10 kilometers (5 to 6 miles) deep along the Normandy coast. This included the five designated landing beaches: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword. The Allies pushed inland up to 24 kilometers (15 miles) in some areas, securing key towns such as Bayeux and Caen. However, it is important to note that the ultimate goal of D-Day was not to seize a significant amount of land, but to establish a foothold on the mainland of Europe and create a breakout point for further advances into France and Germany.
