While the Founding Fathers did not abolish slavery outright, they did pave the way for its eventual abolition. The Constitution included provisions such as the Three-Fifths Compromise and the Fugitive Slave Clause, which recognized the institution of slavery and allowed for its continuation. Furthermore, many of the Founding Fathers were themselves slave owners, and they were unwilling to take actions that would jeopardize their own economic interests.
