Do the Germans say fatherland or motherland?

In German, the words for "fatherland" and "motherland" are "Vaterland" and "Mutterland", respectively. While both terms are used to describe one's homeland, "Vaterland" is the more common and widely used term. It is often used in patriotic and nationalistic contexts. "Mutterland" is less commonly used and may be perceived as more poetic or metaphorical.
