History of North America

What kind of boats did Leif Eriksson use to sail North America?

Leif Erikson used Viking longboats, also called longships, during his voyage to North America. These boats were typically made of oak and ranged from 50 to 80 feet long. They were double-ended, with a shallow draft that allowed them to traverse shallow waters. The ship was characterized by its distinctive hull shape, a long and slender design, and a symmetric form that tapered towards both ends. They had oars along their sides, as well as a single sail that was raised and lowered as needed.
