The tank was one of the most important new technologies of World War I. 4. Poison Gas

5. Submarines
Submarines were used extensively by both sides in World War I. Submarines could attack enemy ships, and they could also be used to lay mines. Submarines were particularly effective against merchant ships, and they played a major role in the Allied blockade of Germany.
