How many pioneers died attempting to reach the west?

It is estimated that around 6,000–10,000 pioneers died attempting to reach the West during the various waves of westward migration in the United States. The exact number is difficult to determine due to the lack of reliable records and the vastness of the territories involved.

Pioneers faced numerous hardships and dangers on their journeys, including harsh weather conditions, lack of food and supplies, accidents, diseases such as cholera, and attacks from Native American tribes. Many also died from exhaustion and the challenges of crossing treacherous terrain, rivers, and mountains.
