How did forging get started?

Forging began as a metalworking technique in the Iron Age. The earliest archaeological evidence of forging dates back to the 4th millennium BCE, when the inhabitants of the Middle East began to work with copper, bronze, and gold. Initially, these metals were forged using simple tools such as hammers and anvils. As metalworking techniques developed, more sophisticated forging techniques emerged, such as drop forging and press forging.
