How much of the United energy consumption comes from fossil fuels?

The United States energy consumption is dominated by fossil fuels. In 2020, fossil fuels accounted for 79% of total U.S. energy consumption, with petroleum and natural gas being the largest contributors. Petroleum accounted for 37% of total energy consumption, followed by natural gas at 32%, coal at 11%, and renewable energy at 11%. The remaining 1% came from other sources such as nuclear power and hydroelectric power.
