In 1860 where was the slave population greatest North or south?

The slave population was greatest in the South in 1860. According to the 1860 U.S. Census, there were 3.95 million slaves in the United States, of whom 3.3 million lived in the South and 650,000 lived in the North. The states with the largest slave populations were Virginia, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia.
