Manifest Destiny was a belief that it was America's destiny to expand from coast to coast, this concept originated in the early 19th century and was used as a justification for war with Mexico and the War of 1812. The War of 1812 started over trade and territorial disputes but evolved into a war mainly about the western expansion of America. The war resulted in the Treaty of Ghent, which established America's northern boundary. The war gave America more control of the continent and expanded westward expansion for the U.S.
