History of North America

What are the three major events that ensured end of slavery?

1. 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution (1865): This amendment abolished slavery in the United States, stating that "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."

2. Emancipation Proclamation (1863): Issued by President Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil War, the Emancipation Proclamation declared that "all persons held as slaves" within the Confederate states "are, and henceforward shall be free."

3. Civil Rights Act of 1866: This law extended citizenship rights and equal protection under the law to all people born in the United States, including former slaves.
