* In general, an Indian Head penny is worth anywhere from $0.05 (the copper base metal value) to $350 (the mint condition value for a 1905-S Indian Head penny).
* The most valuable Indian Head pennies are 1909-S V.D.B., 1908-S with full/large S mint mark, and 1909-S without V.D.B.
* Pennies prior to 1857 had a 12% nickel alloy. This alloy was reduced to 5% in 1857.
* In 1864 the nickel content was completely removed. These copper-nickel pennies are still legal tender today.
