History of North America

When did the Civil War divide country?

The Civil War in the United States was a period of armed conflict between 1861 and 1865 that divided the country into two main factions: the Union, or Northern states, and the Confederacy, or Southern states. The conflict began primarily as a result of the long-standing debate about the enslavement of African American people, with many Northern states seeking to abolish it and many Southern states determined to preserve it.
