How many black people served in US Civil War?

Over 200,000 African American soldiers served in the Union Army during the Civil War. More than 38,000 died from disease, accidents, or in combat, and more than 25,000 were wounded. Nearly 134,000 former slaves also served as United States Colored Troops. More than 3,000 black Confederate soldiers also served during the war, primarily as laborers, teamsters, cooks, and musicians.
