Roosevelt's first fireside chat was a radio address he gave March 12, 1933. In the address, Roosevelt spoke to the American people about the banking crisis that was gripping the country. The speech was a success and helped to restore confidence in the government and the banking system.
In addition to his first fireside chat, Roosevelt also took several other steps to address the economic crisis. These steps included:
- The Public Works Administration (PWA) was established to create jobs and stimulate the economy.
- The Civil Works Administration (CWA) was created to provide temporary jobs to the unemployed.
- The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was created to put young men to work on conservation projects.
- The National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA) was passed to regulate industry and encourage fair competition.
- The Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA) was passed to help farmers by raising crop prices and reducing surpluses.
Roosevelt's New Deal policies helped to end the Great Depression and restore prosperity to the United States.
