History of North America

Was The Louisiana Purchase about the state of Louisiana?

The Louisiana Purchase was a land deal between the United States and France in 1803, in which the United States acquired nearly 828,000 square miles of the Louisiana territory for $15 million. The Louisiana territory included the present-day states of Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska, as well as parts of North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and Minnesota. So the Louisiana Purchase was not just about the state of Louisiana, but a much larger area of land.
